Handheld licences can be associated with either a Channel or a Client. Channel handheld users will only see managed clients in the list of available clients, whether they are administrators or not.
Handheld licences are created by clicking the Add Handheld Licence button in the Handheld Licence screen. We recommend only creating licences as they are required, if the client is managed by a channel which uses aggregated licencing this gives much more flexibility for moving spare licences around. Once a licence is created it is considered by the system to be in use until such time as it is deactivated.
Suspending a handheld licence will effectively prevent a user from accessing ZetaSafe on their device but it will not completely detach the device, so if required the device can be reactivated. This is often useful for auditing when trying to determine who uses which licence!
Deactivating a handheld licence will detach the devices unique ID, leaving the device to be freshly registered with another client whilst retaining no access to the previous, deactivated, one.
A considerable amount of information is gathered about licenced devices each time they sync with ZetaSafe, for example:
- The client which was the target of the sync
- The username who sync’d
- The device O/S type and version
- The app version
These are also useful when trying to problem solve or indeed audit which users are using which devices. No personal information or data relating to the database itself is saved/recorded here.
